As feeling its too important & urgent, I am highlighting some issues on which our future depends. GM (Genetically Modified) food is very near to get launched in India. If once it’s done its irreversible. The main beneficiary foreign Pharmacy Company Monsanto-Mahyco is putting its maximum effort to get it approved by the government by any mean, its not only the matter of thousand crores, its matter of our & our generations’ life. It would do irreversible damage to our health, our soil and its ecosystems, as well as to our farmers who are already labouring hard to make ends meet. India is an agricultural economy {62% are into farming} and this will make our farmers ever more dependent on a foreign corporate while adversely affecting the fertility of his/her field.
So below are nine crucial points that questions the approval of GM seeds in India. At present, Bt Brinjal, a genetically modified brinjal variety produced by a multinational company called Monsanto-Mahyco is awaiting approval to be introduced in India. After this 22 other vegetable and grain varieties are on the way. However, as there are many charges of corruptions and bureaucracy on the credibility of the approval processes the Supreme Court was required to put a stay on sanctioning GM vegetables in India.
In order to get direct citizen opinion Jairam Ramesh, Minister of Environment and Forest from Central Govt. is holding public hearings in 6 states. 3 of them done & yesterday it was in Ahmedabad.
The GM seeds will be modified by DNA alteration which will be mixture of Plant DNA & Animal DNA. So it is curse for the people who want to live vegetarian & natural.
Your immediate concern can make a lot of influence on the subject. It should be put up at urgent & maximum efforts, please take the necessary actions which can make it stop anyway. Spread this message to al your friends & the influential people you know.
